Probiotics China – November 2021

  • Yili Industrial Group Co., Ltd. (Yili Group) invested in Ausnutria Dairy Corporation on Oct. 27. Jingang, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Yili Group, will acquire a total of 531m shares from other shareholders at a price of HK$10.06 (US$1.29) per share, which represents approximately 30.89% of the total issued shares of Ausnutria. In addition, Ausnutria will issue 90m new shares to Jingang at the price of HK$10.06 per share. If the above two transactions can be successfully completed, Jingang will hold 621m Ausnutria shares, or 34.33% of the total, making Yili the largest single shareholder of the company.
  • Ausnutria owns the famous probiotics company, the Bioflag. At the same time, Yili Group also launched it’s own probiotics business in China early this year. Both have already participated in Probiotics Online project.
  • Lallemand has introduced GUARD, a patented antacid technology that protects probiotics and other active ingredients from gastric acid. The ingredient can form a gel barrier in a low pH environment to protect the probiotic formula from stomach acid.
  • Chr-hansen and UPL, a global agricultural solutions provider, have reached a unique partnership to strengthen the existing microbial product line and provide farmers with sustainable choices beyond traditional agricultural products.
  • Bioflag’s patent application for “food, oral cleansing and pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting oral pathogenic strains of lactic acid bacteria” was approved (Chinese invention patent ZL 2017 1 1155468.8). It has the effect of inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the oral cavity. It is a new solution to reduce dental caries, whiten teeth, and improve breath.
  • ADM announced that it is forming a joint venture with enzymes and probiotics manufacturer Qingdao Vland Biotech Group Ltd. that will provide human probiotics products in the Chinese market. The new company mainly produces and sells probiotic products for human use,
  • Manzhiyu has developed a new repair + whitening skin care essence: Probiotics and Stable Crystal set to help people with damaged skin.
  • Puze Biological Products Co., Ltd and Yujian Brand Management (Hainan) Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement to release two probiotics product the Yujian seven  Probiotisc Powder” and “Freeze-dried Lactobacillus Antibacterial Tablets
  • The baby food brand Guaixiaoman has launched a new baby probiotic fruit pie containing 35% of selected fresh fruits to maintain a plentiful pulp taste, and two probiotics, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei, are added to protect the baby gastrointestinal health.
  • Friesland and the Lallemand have jointly launched two new gut health concept products-PRO-Digest Health Shot and PRO-Digest Bowel Support, enabling food companies to develop products that enhance gut health.
  • A study by the Children’s Hospital of National Taiwan University showed that probiotics can reduce the symptoms of ADHD in children with Tourette’s disease. The results show that probiotics will not affect the severity of tics in children but can improve symptoms of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.
  • SinePharm, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Pharmaceuticals, cooperated with KoBioLabs on the probiotics KBL697 and KBL693. It acquired the operation rights of new probiotics KBL697 and KBL693 in China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) with a transaction amount of no more than 107 million US dollars. The deal covered the rights of research and development, production, registration, distribution, sales, marketing, promotion and relicensing among all medical indications of KBL697 and KBL693 as well as the exclusive rights as food, health products, and special medical foods in China.
  • Ambrosial launched three new scoop-type fruit yogurts.
  • In the first half of the year, the sales of New Hope HuoRun Crystal Yogurt increased by 275% year-on-year, Recently it launched a new Double Crystal Yogurt.
  • On October 11th, Sequential Skin, a start-up company focused on skin health, announced that it had received a seed round of financing of US$1.65 million (approximately 10.61 million RMB).
  • Yakult and APC Microbiome Ireland (APC) jointly released the brain-gut axis consumer guide.
  • On October 4, French microbiome startup MaaT Pharma (MaaT for short) announced that its initial public offering (IPO) registration documents had been approved by the French Financial Market Authority. Founded in 2014, MaaT is committed to using fecal bacteria transplantation to treat various diseases from infection to cancer. It is also the only company that focuses on autologous fecal bacteria transplantation to treat leukemia.
  • Flavors and fragrances company Symrise has launched a microbiome-based platform that mines data from the human body’s key microbial communities to develop products for the nutrition and cosmetic industries.
  • FMCG Gurus’ research shows that consumers are actively seeking products that support specific health benefits even if they are not experiencing specific symptoms. These areas include immune health (67%), digestive health (66%), cognitive health (66%), heart health (69%), and joint/bone health (62%)1.
