According to the statistics of the China Consumers Association, a total of 77,301 consumer food complaints were received in 2021, accounting for 7.4% of the total number of commodity complaints. Among them, 7,709 complaints were health food complaints, accounting for 10.0% of the food category complaints.
However, the quality and safety level of health food is much higher than the average level of food. For example, the food supervision and sampling data released by the State Administration for Market Regulation showed that the overall failure rate of food safety supervision and sampling in the first half of 2021 was 2.34%, of which the failure rate of health food was only 0.58%.
What results in such a big difference that makes health food not trustworthy? The answer reveals with another recent data: In 2021, the national procuratorial authorities handled 30,000 public interest litigation cases showing prominent problems of illegal addition and false propaganda in health care products.
