The National Health Commission Officially Promotes Clinical Nutrition

At present, Chinese residents are facing the problems of nutritional deficiency and excess energy intake. Especially, the nutritional health problems are prominent in the elderly, children, pregnant women, and people with chronic diseases. Recently, the National Health Commission released the “Clinical Nutrition Department Construction and Management Guidelines (for Trial Implementation)”. The Guidelines propose that medical institutions should independently develop clinical nutrition departments, whose job responsibilities include conducting nutritional screening and assessment, nutritional diagnosis and treatment, providing patients with medical meals, enteral, and parenteral nutrition prescriptions, and standardizing the use of food for special medical purposes.
