New Labeling Requirement for Probiotic Beverages

The National Health Commission released the “National Standard for Food Safety: Beverages” (GB 7101-2022), which unified the total number of bacterial colony indicators for solid beverages and improved the labeling requirements.

There are two requirements worth special attention. First, products with added strains of bacteria need to be labeled as live (unpasteurized) or non-live (pasteurized) categories. Second, lactic acid bacteria beverage products also need to identify the lactic acid bacteria content.

This standard further expands the scope of application to include new forms of beverages such as probiotic beverages, beverage concentrates, fruit and vegetable juices, and soy protein beverages, and will be officially implemented on December 30, 2022. (Source: shuzhengkangxun)
