Scitop Bio-tech announced that it has signed a 10-year probiotic license agreement with Centro Sperimentale del Latte S.r.l. (CSL) for the exclusive production, marketing, and sale of the company’s Lactobacillus Plantarum P-8 strain in Europe and North America areas. The parties stipulated that CLS pays Scitop Bio-tech an annual fee of RMB 356,000 yuan (USD $50,000) for each of the first five years of the agreement period for intellectual property licensing and an annual fee of RMB 712,000 yuan (USD $99,000) for each of the next five years for licensing, and 10% of net sales as a royalty fee.
Lactobacillus Plantarum P-8, isolated from natural fermented sour milk in Inner Mongolia, China, has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety and improve memory and cognitive function. The licensing agreement of this Lactobacillus plantarum P-8 marks that Chinese independent intellectual property rights of probiotic strains have entered the global market and become increasingly more active.
