“Food Labeling Supervision and Management Measures” to Be Introduced Soon

On March 15, in response to consumer concerns about the difficulty of finding, reading, and calculating production and expiration dates, and to further regulate food labeling, strengthen supervision, and protect consumer rights, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) is set to introduce the “Food Labeling Supervision and Management Measures” in the near future.

This regulation prioritizes the consumer perspective in solving these issues. It mandates that:

  • Production and expiration dates must be prominently displayed for easier identification.
  • Larger font sizes must be used to improve readability.
  • Expiration dates must follow a standardized format (YYYY/MM/DD) to clearly indicate the shelf life.
