On March 26, 2025, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee released findings from an investigation into live-stream e-commerce food sales: 69 out of 100 products were found to have misleading claims, despite not being officially registered as health foods (i.e., not bearing the “Blue Hat” certification).
Most misleading claims were found in: blood sugar-lowering foods, cross-border functional foods, imported infant foods and products claiming to contain “miracle ingredients”.
Scoring system for product reliability: Domestic products: 7.39/10, Imported products: 6.74/10. This investigation underscores the growing scrutiny on false advertising and consumer deception in China’s functional food sector. (Source: people.com.cn)
