Tariffs on Supplements Sees Some Relief from the Trump Administration

Sensible move from the U.S. Administration and good work by NPA and its members. As the U.S. supplement industry doesn’t really have an alternate source for these ingredients let alone a U.S. domestic source. Commonsense prevails, hopefully the list of exempted ingredients will expand especially on the botanical ingredient side of the business.

Per the 37-page Annex II of the executive order which put the tariffs into effect, exempt ingredients include:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B1, B2, B5, B6, B12
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Folate
  • Niacin and Niacinamide
  • CoQ10
  • Choline
  • Fatty Acids of animal and vegetable origin
  • Calcium
  • Barium
  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Zinc
  • Chromium
  • Silicon
  • Selenium
  • Otherwise unspecified minerals
  • Lysine and unspecified amino acids and amino acid esters
