South Korea Releases Draft Amendment to Regulations on Functional Ingredients and Standards for Health Functional Foods

On August 21, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2024-386, proposing amendments to certain parts of the “Regulations on the Certification of Functional Ingredients and Standards for Health Functional Foods.” The key changes are as follows:

A new provision is introduced regarding the return and handling of application materials: To simplify the review process for ingredients with prior review experience, only the updated materials following the return will be reviewed if the application is returned or withdrawn within two years. The deadline for submitting opinions on these amendments is October 21, 2024.
