On September 13, the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment issued a notice on improving the data requirements for the safety evaluation of “Three New Foods.” The notice states that, in accordance with the relevant requirements of the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, applicants must submit relevant data as outlined in the attachment. This applies to products involving genetically modified microorganisms that meet the declaration criteria for “Three New Foods.” The submission should include details in the production process section of the new food raw materials and new varieties of food-related products, as well as in the production process section of the safety evaluation data for new food additives. It is evident that significant changes will be made to the review and application process for “Three New Foods” derived from genetically modified microorganisms in China.
