Recently, the Market Supervision Bureau of Xiangshan, Zhejiang Province, investigated a case of false health claims made by an online store selling ordinary food. The store sold a product called “Lutein Gel Gummies,” which had not been registered as a health food in China, making it an ordinary food. However, the store claimed on its product page that the gummies could “increase central vision and improve myopia” and “prevent eye diseases,” which constitutes illegal advertising of disease prevention and treatment benefits for ordinary food. Additionally, the store sold a product called “Compound Enzyme Drink,” also unregistered as a health food, but promoted its benefits for “assisting digestion and absorption.” The market regulation authorities ordered the seller to stop advertising, eliminate the impact within a specified scope, and imposed a fine.
