December 30 – According to the Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress on Authorizing the State Council to Temporarily Adjust the Application of Certain Provisions of the Food Safety Law in the Hainan Free Trade Port, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has recently approved, in principle, the interim regulations drafted by the Hainan Provincial Government for importing small quantities of Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) and appropriate quantities of health foods into the Hainan Free Trade Port.
Upon implementation of these interim regulations, designated medical institutions within the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone can officially commence the temporary import of small quantities of rare disease-specific FSMP, specific complete nutrition FSMP, and appropriate quantities of health foods that are legally marketed abroad. This initiative aims to meet the clinical nutritional needs of rare disease patients and patients with specific conditions while addressing public health demands. Furthermore, it is expected to encourage enterprises to strengthen product research and development. (Source: SAMR)
