New National Standards for Food Additive Use to Take Effect

The updated National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024) will officially take effect on February 8, 2025, replacing the 2014 version, which has been in use for 10 years. The SAMR has reminded all food production enterprises to prepare in advance and strictly adhere to the new standard upon its implementation.

The new standard introduces significant changes with broad implications, affecting nearly all food production enterprises. First, the method for querying food additive usage regulations has been revised, with noticeable structural changes to the appendices and tables. Food safety managers in relevant enterprises must promptly study and familiarize themselves with these changes to ensure compliance.

Second, the revised standard updates the usage scope and limits for certain preservatives, food flavorings, and processing aids. It also introduces total quantity requirements for some sweeteners when used together in the same food category. Enterprises involved in producing these food categories must adjust their raw materials, production processes, product formulations, and labeling to ensure compliance with the new standards.

Third, after adjusting product formulations and implementing the new standards, enterprises must update food labels accordingly. Changes related to storage conditions, shelf life, and other details should also be standardized to meet the updated national requirements. (Source: Shanghai Market Regulation Bureau)
