Yakult Closes Shanghai Factory

On December 6, Japanese company Yakult announced the closure of its Shanghai factory, which ceased production on the same day. Production will be shifted to other facilities, including the Tianjin and Wuxi plants. By consolidating its manufacturing bases, Yakult aims to reduce fixed costs. As part of the closure, “Shanghai Yakult Dairy Co., Ltd.” will be dissolved, and its business operations will be taken over by “Yakult (China) Investment Co., Ltd.” In January, Yakult also merged its local entity in Beijing, “Beijing Yakult Trade Co., Ltd.,” into “Yakult (China) Investment Co., Ltd.” to enhance efficiency.
