Probiotics China News Bites – January 2025

  • At the 7th China International Import Expo, Ausnutria showcased nearly 60 products from its six imported brands, including Kabrita, Hyproca, Nutrition Care, Oz Farm, Amalthea, and CBM goat milk-based powder. Six new products made their debut at the event, including Kabrita Yuebai Platinum Edition and the upgraded version of NC Shubi Probiotics.

 

  • PrecisionBiotics introduced its new product, “Daily Women’s Flora Probiotics”, at the expo. This product is based on the brand’s deep understanding of women’s health needs and aims to provide healthier solutions for female consumers. The formula contains scientifically validated ASTARTETM and LA-5TM strains, which help maintain the microecological balance of women’s intimate areas and safeguard their health.

 

  • Xingdongli officially announced the launch of its Greek yogurt line. According to the company, the new offerings come in three flavors: original, melon, and mango. Each cup contains 30g of high protein, more than three times the concentration of fresh milk, with zero added sugar and lower fat content. The melon-flavored Greek yogurt includes Hami melon pulp, featuring seven types of lactic acid bacteria, with 33g of fruit pulp and jam per cup. The mango-flavored Greek yogurt contains Taiwanese mango pulp, providing 23g of high protein and 33g of fruit pulp and jam per cup.

 

  • Lifeway Foods has expanded its functional beverage portfolio with the launch of an innovative “Probiotic Smoothie + Collagen Drink” series. These lactose-free functional drinks are made with kefir cultures to support gut and skin health. Each serving contains 5 grams of collagen and comes in four flavors: Matcha Latte, Berry Explosion, Tropical Fruit, and Original. The Probiotic Smoothie + Collagen series combines 12 live and active cultures, delivering 2.5 to 30 billion CFU per serving, and 5 grams of collagen to support skin hydration, elasticity, smoothness, and joint health. Made with kefir, the drinks also promote a healthy microbiome and provide bioavailable nutrients such as vitamins A, B, and D, protein, and essential fatty acids for skin cell production.

 

  • Blueglass has introduced a new “Goodnight Collagen Yogurt”, which, according to the company, contains ingredients such as poria, lily, sour jujube seed, hydrolyzed casein peptide, and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). It is specially enriched with collagen peptides, peach gum, bird’s nest, and tremella. Each cup contains approximately 120g of peach gum products (including up to 9g of dried peach gum), with an additional topping of about 50g of peach gum products (including up to 4g of dried peach gum).

 

  • Sirio Pharma announced that it has developed a complex probiotic formula consisting of probiotics, prebiotics, and plant extracts. The related research was recently published in the internationally renowned functional food journal ‘Functional Foods in Health and Disease’.

 

  • “Nao Bai Jin” announced the establishment of its Nao Bai Jin Coffee Lab at the Giant Network Park. The lab has already developed Nao Bai Jin’s classic coffee and low-caffeine coffee and has also innovatively launched specialty drinks such as Ginseng Americano and Probiotic Latte. With the establishment of the lab, the first product of the Nao Bai Jin + Coffee series, the Nao Bai Jin Drip Coffee, was simultaneously launched on December 1st. This product is currently in the internal testing phase and is not yet available for public sale.

 

  • “Wednesday” has launched Green & Superfood Gummies, which combine greens, superfoods, and probiotics into a convenient format. The product claims to maintain energy, support digestion, and improve overall health.

 

  • “Mengniu Yourui”, in collaboration with the e-commerce platform JD.com, successfully held the launch event for the new **Antang Shield** product in Beijing. Designed specifically for individuals managing blood sugar levels, Antang Shield utilizes breakthrough patented technology. Its formula includes patented plant extracts, mulberry leaf extract, and bitter melon peptides in an 8:8:3 scientific ratio to achieve effective blood sugar control. Additionally, Antang Shield is fortified with ‘Lactobacillus paracasei Zhang’ and ‘Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis MN-Gup’, which help regulate postprandial blood sugar levels. The product also contains dietary fibers such as inulin to enhance satiety, reduce food intake, and lower sugar absorption in the intestines. While ensuring a sugar-free and low-GI profile, Antang Shield also includes whey protein, complemented by calcium citrate/lactate minerals, medium- and long-chain triglycerides (MLCT), magnesium, selenium, and a combination of vitamins and minerals to provide comprehensive nutrition.

 

  • “Jiangzhong Food Therapy” has introduced a new “Xianyan Probiotic Fermented Drink”, which is made using probiotic fermentation and contains ingredients such as pomegranate, lotus leaf, and hyaluronic acid.

 

  • Jelley Brown has launched a new **Guanjun Lactic Acid Bacteria Drink**. According to reports, the new product is fermented with a French complex probiotic strain and made with imported milk from New Zealand, offering a rich dairy flavor. It is enriched with DHA algae oil powder sourced from Australia, with a 26% sugar reduction while maintaining delicious taste. The product contains 0 preservatives, 0 trans fats, and 0 cholesterol.

 

  • Yili Ambrosial has introduced a new **Prune Probiotic Yogurt**, which contains 1 billion CFU of LGG active probiotics per pack. The product has reduced sugar and is packed with plump prunes, offering a rich fruity aroma.

 

  • Robust has launched a **low-GI tagatose milk tea**, which features natural rare sugar—tagatose—without sucrose. It is specially formulated with four types of probiotics totaling 120 billion CFU. The product boasts clean ingredients, five “0 additives,” authentic tea leaves, and 100% real milk for its milk tea base.

 

  • Materials innovation company **Xampla** and the UK’s **Quadram Institute** have received a grant to advance Xampla’s plant-based microencapsulation technology. This technology allows food and beverage formulators to incorporate stable probiotics into a wider range of fortified products. The system’s micro-plant polymer shell encapsulates probiotics, extending their shelf life in both refrigerated and ambient conditions. It ensures targeted release in the small intestine, maximizing health benefits.

 

  • Tmall Health has released its **2024 Health Annual Keywords**, revealing that nutritional supplements targeting organs such as the heart, liver, spleen, eyes, brain, and legs have become essential for young consumers. According to Tmall Health data, probiotics, glucosamine chondroitin, lutein, deep-sea fish oil, and liver protection tablets are the top five best-selling health products.

 

  • Lin Guangzhe, head of the probiotics category for Tmall Health’s health supplement sector, stated that probiotics are among the fastest-growing categories in health foods on the Tmall platform, achieving double-digit compound growth for three consecutive years. During this year’s Double 11 shopping festival, probiotic sales increased by over 70% year-over-year. The number of users searching for “probiotics” has grown for five consecutive years, with a 50% year-over-year increase in 2024. Notably, consumers aged 30 and above are increasingly becoming the main purchasers of nutritional products, with the children’s and adolescent nutrition segment expected to see significant growth, bringing substantial new opportunities to the industry.

 

  • “Nint” has released a report titled “Big Health | Probiotics Emerging in a New Track.”According to the report, consumers consider rest as their first choice for addressing gastrointestinal discomfort, followed by direct methods such as improving their diet. Additionally, 15% of respondents opt to take probiotics for digestive regulation. Online platforms have become the primary channel for consumers to learn about probiotics.

 

  • “Newmans Health Food Holdings Limited” has passed the hearing for its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. According to the prospectus, Newmans primarily engages in the marketing, sales, and distribution of finished nutritional products in China. Its product portfolio includes algal DHA, probiotics, vitamins, multinutrients, and algal calcium products, primarily targeting pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children. Algal DHA products are the company’s core offering, contributing to over 90% of its revenue.

 

  • “DSM-Firmenich” has signed an investment agreement with the “Hohhot Chilechuan Dairy Industry Development Zone”, officially announcing the establishment of a wholly-owned investment company, “DSM-Firmenich (Hohhot) Biotechnology Co., Ltd.” The company will invest in the construction of a probiotic strain production line project, focusing on the production and operation of various probiotic strains for dairy applications.

 

  • “Montagne Dairy Group” and “Beijing Scitop Bio-Tech Co., Ltd.” (hereinafter referred to as “Beijing Scitop Bio-Tech”) held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Nanchang. During the ceremony, both parties discussed and reached a strategic consensus on business cooperation and product development. Beijing Scitop Bio-Tech, an A-share listed company, is known as the “first probiotic stock” in China and a leading enterprise in the domestic probiotic industry. It is also a key drafter of China’s postbiotic group standards. “Montagne Dairy Co., Ltd.,” established in May 2018 and backed by Shenzhen Tiantu Capital, is a large-scale food industry group focused on the research, production, and sales of health beverages.
