National Health Commission: Two New Food Ingredients Approved

On March 1, the National Health Commission issued Notice No. 1 of 2022, which pointed out that two new food ingredients, Guanshan cherry blossom and pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt, 11 new varieties of food additives, and 19 new varieties of food-related products have passed the review. Furthermore, there is a lack of sufficient information on the safety of consuming the two new food ingredients in infants, children, pregnancy, and lactating women. It’s worth notice that pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt can be used as raw materials for energy drinks, sports drinks, and electrolyte drinks as in the US, or even used as dietary supplements and natural health food as in the EU and Canada.
