Recently, niacin has been gaining recognition in the food industry, with some beverage packaging specifically emphasizing the addition of niacin. Several bloggers claim that drinking these can whiten and brighten the skin. A doctor from the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University explained that niacin is a water-soluble vitamin, also known as vitamin B3, which is naturally present in many foods. The addition of niacin in foods and beverages is very common, and there is no need for surprise. On one hand, it acts as a nutritional supplement and plays an auxiliary role; on the other hand, it also serves as a color preserver to prevent the beverage from decomposing or changing color. The amount of niacin added to food is very small and not much useful for whitening. Further, there is no clinical evidence to support the claim that taking oral niacin can lead to skin whitening. Therefore, everyone is advised to be rational in their understanding. (Source: Weibo)
