On April 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation(SAMR) officially announced the “Technical Requirements for Health Food Raw Materials Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Ganoderma Lucidum Record Products (No. 18 of 2024)”, which came into effect from May 1, 2024. In December 2023, the SAMR issued the “Health Food Raw Materials Directory Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Ganoderma lucidum”, incorporating ginseng, American ginseng, and Ganoderma lucidum into the health food raw materials directory.
The “Product Technical Requirements” released this time stipulates the technical requirements for the three raw materials available for product filing, such as excipients, dosage forms, processes, etc. It clearly indicates that product quality and safety indicators, such as characteristic components and pollution indicators, must comply with relevant national food safety standards in our country.
At present, unlike the record-keeping model adopted by foreign dietary supplement products, which primarily uses “self-evaluation, self-record, and self-liability”, the Chinese health food record raw materials catalog must be based on registered products. These are led and explicitly clarified by the government’s competent departments regarding the technical requirements of the record products. In these processes, under the premise of ensuring industrialization, standardization, and quality safety, a group matures, a group is included, and a group is recorded.
