- On October 29, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued a “Notice on Public Comments for 107 Proposed National Standard Projects, Including ‘Health Food Raw Materials – Probiotics’.” The notice states that the national standard project for “Health Food Raw Materials – Probiotics” is under the jurisdiction of TC466 (National Technical Committee on Special Food Standardization), with the Special Food Department of SAMR as the supervising authority. After research, public comments are now being solicited for “Health Food Raw Materials – Probiotics” and 106 other proposed national standard projects, with the deadline for comments set as November 27, 2024.
- On October 17, according to Ausnutria, from October 15 to 18, during the sub-forum on “Raw Material Innovation and Application Development” at the 9th China Special Foods Conference, Xinmei Guo, R&D Director of Golden Flag Biotech, a subsidiary of Ausnutria, officially announced that Golden Flag Biotech will fully undertake the industrial production and commercialization of Yili’s three gold-standard probiotic strains. These three gold-standard probiotic strains are Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BL-99, Lactobacillus paracasei K56, and Lactobacillus paracasei ET-22.
- On October 18, Saneen Health’s AKK PROBIO probiotic strain (Akkermansia muciniphila, commonly referred to as AKK bacteria), which possesses independent intellectual property rights, successfully passed the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) scientific evaluation conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This achievement marks the official inclusion of AKK PROBIO in the globally authoritative GRAS list.
- From October 29 to 31, Junyao Runying made its appearance at the SupplySide West trade show in the United States. At the exhibition, Junyao Runying showcased ODM/CDMO solutions addressing various health needs, including gut health, oral health, immune health, weight management, IBS, women’s health, and emotional health. The company launched a range of innovative product formats, including instant powder, popping candy, and probiotic chocolate.
- The gut health-focused brand “BelliWelli” is set to launch a new flavor of its daily fiber and probiotic powder, Peach Mango. The new flavor is designed to cater to consumers seeking convenient and effective dietary supplements that support gut health and overall wellness. Each serving contains 3.5 grams of dietary fiber, 2 grams of collagen, and 1 billion CFU of probiotics to promote a healthy gut microbiome. It also includes 278 milligrams of electrolytes to aid hydration and energy levels.
- Meiyitian announced the launch of its first active probiotic beverage in collaboration with Sam’s Club. According to the official introduction, the product contains China-patented K56 space strain, 0 fat, and 50 billion live lactobacilli.
- Bright Dairy announced a new zero-sucrose fermented yogurt. The new product, as introduced, is low-calorie, zero-sucrose, and low-fat, with only 1.1 grams of fat per 100 grams. It uses *Lactobacillus casei* LC2W and is preserved via cold chain technology to ensure freshness.
- CHOCDAY announced the launch of its “Freshly Brewed Dark Chocolate Series.” According to the official introduction, the new lineup includes two flavors: Crispy Quinoa and Oat Milk Coffee. The Crispy Quinoa flavor features royal quinoa sourced from Bolivia, roasted for a crunchy texture. It is enriched with 11.1% probiotics and contains no white sugar, no trans fats, and no cocoa butter substitutes. The Oat Milk Coffee flavor uses European oats paired with coffee for a rich taste, contains 10.1% probiotics, and applies enzymatic hydrolysis technology to enhance the flavor.
- The children’s nutrition brand Doctor Jepson has officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the global product selection platform Yuanqi Zhenxuan. At the same time, Doctor Jepson launched a new product—Lysine Dipeptide Calcium. According to the introduction, this product contains dual amino acids (lysine + arginine), 50mg of advanced egg yolk peptide developed through specialized research, 100mg of patented bone collagen peptide, 1 billion CFU of Lactococcus lactis JYLL-72, along with calcium citrate, vitamin D, and vitamin K2.
- Mead Johnson has launched its new ProComfort infant formula. According to the official introduction, this new product not only continues to utilize the patented dual-protein targeted hydrolysis technology of the ProComfort series but also includes LGG active probiotics with more than 30 patents, as well as human milk oligosaccharides (HMO).
- The American kefir and probiotic brand “Lifeway Foods” has jointly launched ten innovative new flavored beverages. The new series is lactose-free and contains high-quality bioavailable nutrients such as protein, calcium, and 12 strains of active probiotic cultures.
- Bellamy’s, a brand under Mengniu, has announced the launch of its new OMNI-PURE Excellence Edition organic product. According to the official introduction, this product contains unique probiotics, including BB-12, native HMO probiotics, and OPN as well as native HMO, which help increase beneficial bacteria and support digestive health. It also features native OPO, α-lactalbumin, native N-acetylneuraminic acid, and phospholipids to enhance nutrient absorption.
- Nint (Ren Tuo) released the report “Health & Wellness | Probiotics Enter a New Track.” According to the report, consumers consider rest as the first choice for addressing gastrointestinal discomfort, followed by direct methods such as improving diet. Additionally, 15% of consumers choose probiotics for regulation, and online platforms have become the primary channel for consumers to learn about probiotics.
- On October 15, the environmental impact assessment report for the Nestlé Health Science (China) Co., Ltd. Health Food R&D and Production Baihe Project (Phase I) was made public. The report revealed that the company plans to establish localized production lines for protein powder and probiotics in China. According to the document, Nestlé Health Science China intends to invest 148 million yuan to repurpose an idle workshop from its former cosmetics manufacturing business. After Phase I is completed, it will achieve an annual production capacity of 36.5 million sachets of protein powder and 36.5 million sachets of probiotics.
- On October 29, Kerry Group announced the completion of its acquisition of parts of the global lactase business from Chr. Hansen and Novozymes. This move expands Kerry’s existing lactase product portfolio, meeting consumer demand for lactose-free dairy products and digestive health solutions.
- According to the sales data for top brands on Taobao and Tmall platforms in September, the top 10 brands by revenue were Wonderlab, Life Space, Qifu Password, Swisse, tbxbv, Lifesflora, CPT, Guangming Shen Doctor, Princess Luna, and Xi De An. Among them, the top probiotics brand, Wonderlab, achieved sales of approximately 35.53 million yuan(4.9 million USD), with over 100,000 units sold.
