“China Food and Nutrition Development Outline (2025-2030)” Released

On March 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Health Commission, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the “China Food and Nutrition Development Outline (2025-2030).”

In the area of accelerating the research and processing of nutritional foods, the outline specifically emphasizes the development and utilization of medicinal food substances. It proposes:

  • Strengthening analysis and evaluation of functional active components in medicinal food substances.
  • Establishing databases for key active ingredients and potential harmful components.
  • Setting up reference laboratories and improving relevant standards and regulations.
  • Promoting the integration of food-based health guidelines into product development and consumer guidance.
  • Exploring health claims for medicinal food substances and expanding the range of edible medicinal materials.
  • Enhancing standard-setting and quality safety supervision for these substances.
  • Encouraging the production and processing of authentic raw materials and developing health foods based on traditional Chinese medicine.
  • Advancing food-based health services and fostering the Chinese medicinal diet industry.
