Probiotics China News Bites – February 2023

  • Huacheng Biology and Ausnutria’s probiotics business brand Bioflag have completed a strategic cooperation signing ceremony. It is reported that this strategic cooperation is based on the theme of “Oriental Bacteria, Mangosteen Sweet and Chinese Core”, and will launch a new generation of throat lozenges-sugar-free probiotic throat lozenges.
  • ADM invested more than $30 million to open a new factory in Spain. It is reported that the factory will produce probiotics and postbiotics and is expected to increase its production capacity by five times, reaching an annual output of 50 tons. At the same time, the facility will support product growth for ADM’s Bio-Kult brand and conduct next-generation genome sequencing and early testing of new strains.
  • Evonik launched In Vivo Biotics, a nutraceutical solution that includes synbiotic formulas combined with probiotics and other prebiotic ingredients. It is reported that the product line of the product portfolio includes in vivo biobutyrate, in vivo biolysin, gluten tolerance in vivo bio, etc.
  • Recently, Synbio Tech’s probiotic products have been certified as personal health functional food by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Taiwanese probiotics manufacturer Synbio Tech has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Cosmax NBT to distribute the company’s Lactobacillus plantarum TWK10 in South Korea.

  • On February 2, the Chinese government service platform of the National Health Commission issued an announcement on the acceptance of a new food raw material which is pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt (PQQ.Na2)
  • IFF presents the latest edition of the Choozit collection. It is reported that the product is a clean label cheese starter, which not only helps manufacturers overcome the flavor challenges associated with the aging process, but also improves the consistency of flavor and texture, and provides a high reliablele pH and texture results throughout the fermentation process.
  • IFF has established a distribution partnership with MycoTechnology to jointly develop alternative proteins and next-generation functional food and beverage products for the European market.
  • Stratum Nutrition has an exclusive license from Clasado Biosciences to distribute Clasado’s Bimuno GOS galacto-oligosaccharide prebiotic ingredient in the U.S. and Canada.
  • On February 8, Shaklee launched a new “Xianqi Probiotics Solid Beverage”. Each bag of this product contains 15 billion probiotics, 2 HOWARU star strains, including 10 billion Bifidobacterium lactis B420 and 5 billion Lactobacillus plantarum LP115, and contains 3 kinds of prebiotics (lactitol, inulin, fructooligosaccharides)
  • On February 7th, Asahi Soft Drinks officially announced the new green tea brand “アサヒサ (そう)” at the business policy briefing held in Tokyo. The brand’s new concept product “micro-fermented green tea” beverage will be launched on April 4th.
  • From February 6th, Yakult (China) Group launched a new product in the Chinese mainland market – Yakult 50 billion live bacteria (lactic acid bacteria) low-sugardairy drink, each bottle is rich in 50 billion active lactic acid bacteria unique to Yakult Group – cheese Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (LcS).
  • On February 7, Japan’s Coca-Cola Company announced that it will sell products containing plasma lactic acid bacteria in Hokkaido, Hokuriku, and Nagano from March 6. Plasma lactic acid bacteria are lactic acid bacteria jointly researched by Kirin Holdings Co., Ltd., Koiwai Dairy Co., Ltd., and Kyowa Hakko Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and its most important function is to support and maintain the immunity of healthy individuals by stimulating pDC (plasmacytoid dendritic cells) system. Recently, Kirin Holdings announced that the sales of its “Lactococcus lactis plasma” related business will increase by 40% year-on-year in 2022.
  • Recently, at the opening ceremony of the Danone R&D and Innovation Center, the company also launched a product exclusively developed for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games – HiPro Expert.
  • On January 20, the official WeChat account of Bright Dairy announced the launch of Jinchangyou “0 belly burden” flavored fermented milk. The product packaging shows that it contains 4 kinds of active lactic acid bacteria and 3 kinds of prebiotics and does not contain sucrose.
