On July 31st, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment released the “National Food Safety Standard – Food Nutritional Fortifiers Usage Standard” and the deadline for comments is until August 10, 2023. In this draft, revisions have been made to categories that have been closely monitored in the industry, such as candies, beverages, and jellies, with the following details:
Candy Category: The candy category has been adjusted to include “sugar-free candy”, “gel-based candy”, and “others”. The “sugar-free candy” category has added the approval of some water-soluble vitamin fortification.
Beverage Category: The allowed types of fortified nutrients have been expanded from subcategories to sub-subcategories, and the fortification levels are specified accordingly.
Jelly Category: Previously approved nutrient types are retained, and appropriate adjustments have been made to the fortification levels of nutrients such as Vitamin A, folic acid, pantothenic acid, iron, and calcium. (Source: shuzhengkangxun)
