On August 1st, the National Health Commission issued a notice stating that the yellowhorn seed kernel and leaf have been approved as new food ingredients. Both of them went through a public solicitation of opinions in the first half of the year.
The main nutritional components of yellowhorn seed kernel include fats, proteins, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, and small amounts of saponins and sterols. The main nutritional components of yellowhorn leaf include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and small amounts of catechins, polysaccharides, saponins, and flavonoids.
It is important to note that, due to the lack of sufficient safety data on the consumption of yellowhorn seed kernel and leaf by infants, pregnant women, and lactating women, labels and instructions should clearly indicate that they are not suitable for these specific populations.
