The“Screen Age”: New Opportunities for Nutritional Supplements to Enter the Eye Health Market

Globally, 1.1 billion people live with untreated visual impairment, and this number is expected to increase to 1.8 billion by 2050. Consumers are also increasingly aware of the importance of maintaining good eye health, and many are looking for nutritional supplements to address eye health concerns. Eye health is a problem not only for adults, but also for children and the elderly. Oxidative stress is one of the most harmful factors that have the greatest impact on the eyes. Antioxidants have received increasing attention as potential solutions to various vision problems, represented by astaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene. Raw materials become the most popular nutritional supplement ingredients. Brands and suppliers must not only meet the needs of an aging population, but also need to be aware of the potential side effects of prolonged screen use on consumers and their need to maintain healthy vision. This means that there is a need for a nutritional supplement on the market that comprehensively solves eye health problems, and raw material suppliers and brands need to actively seek new food ingredients to join the eye health field.
