On December 1st, the National Health Commission issued the “Announcement on Nine ‘Three New Foods’”, in which 3 new food ingredients yerba mate, yeast protein, and catechins received approval.
Yerba mate’s primary nutritional components include carbohydrates, dietary fiber, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and small amounts of polyphenols, flavonoids, saponins, and other substances. It will be regulated according to the standards for substitute tea.
Yeast protein is derived from brewing yeast (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae) and is obtained by cultivating, fermenting, and collecting the cell mass after centrifugation. The main nutritional components include protein (≥70.0g/100g), fat, dietary fiber, and water.
Catechin for children is derived from tea leaves, and green tea catechin has been approved in Japan as a functional ingredient for specific health food use. The recommended daily intake for this product is ≤ 300mg/day.
